Although I have traveled to many places, it is rare that I have a strong desire to revisit a place over and over again. However, the island of Santorini is an exception to that rule, and no matter how many times I visit this stunning location I am continually delighted and nourished by the air, the light, and the people. The official name is actually Thira, and can be found in the Aegean Sea as part of the Cyclades group of islands.
An old volcano, this crescent island is all that remains after a series of massive eruptions some 3600 years ago. Many of the towns are built on the inside wall of the volcano’s caldera giving the island its iconic look that is so commonly photographed. What is not so common is one of my favorite resorts in the delightful town of Oia – the Andronis Luxury Suites.
“Oia is situated on top of an impressive cliff and offers an unparalleled view over the volcano of Palia and Nea Kameni, as well as the island of Thirassia. This traditional village features charming houses along narrow streets, blue domed churches, and sun-bathed verandas. Its streets have plenty of shops, tavernas, cafés, traditional bakeries and much more.”
Here, 22 exquisite suites have been carved out of the landscape forming a multi-level Zen retreat that calms the mind and awakes the senses. A panoramic view of the caldera coupled with facilities such as the property’s Mare et Sanus Spa, organic restaurant, distinguished local wines and personalized service makes the Andronis Luxury Suites the place to be. Consider an herbal massage and a deep hydration facial using local ingredients such as propolis, tomato, cucumber, orange, fig, cinnamon and almonds after a challenging day of shopping.
Santorini has wonderful wineries and there is no better place to explore these home grown vintages than with Adronis’ fabulous meals. Using locally made cheeses, organically grown food and the freshest ingredients, their chef creates fabulous traditional menus with a nouvelle twist. Considering the resort faces the setting sun, what better way to end a day than with the perfect meal and a stunning sunset?
Regarding rooms – Adronis offers 5 different kinds of suites all of which have either a private jacuzzi (Premier, Grande & Deluxe suites) or pool (Exceptional & Pool suites). Bathrobes, slippers, hair dryers and high-end toiletries are also included in every suite along with satellite television, a CD player, and wireless internet. Equally important, private balconies with stunning views in a surreal setting are available just outside your door.
These rooms are incredibly romantic and make the perfect honeymoon retreat – or trip to rekindle a romance! I’ve created a slide show for you illustrating some of the wonderful rooms so you can appreciate the level of luxury this resort offers.
Nightly rates for the hotel begin at 460€ a night in low season and 610€ a night in high season for two people including a generous breakfast and taxes.
